Cable ties are an extremely versatile way to organize and bundle wires and cables. They are easy to install, and can be cut off for rework very easily. Cable ties have also been referred to as lashing ties, wire ties, zip ties and wire tidies. There are several types of wire ties available, depending on your application. Nylon cable ties are the most common type. You'll see them in home repair centers, electrician supply houses, etc. Others are much less common, and you need to visit websites like buy heat shrink .com to find them.

Nylon 6/6 Cable Ties are by far the most popular and widely used wire ties in the world. They can be used in most applications at a continuous use temperature of from -40°F up to 185°F. Nylon cable ties meet UL 94V-2 flammability rating, and our black ties are weather and UV resistant for extended sunlight exposure. There are three grades of Nylon material used in cable ties. All of the ties listed on this page fall under one of two categories: General Purpose Nylon 6,6 for all colors except black, and UV Stabilized Nylon 6/6 for Black. Heat Stabilized Nylon cable ties are rated for continuous use up to 257°F, and are available on our Specialty Cable Ties page

Tefzel® Cable ties (ETFE [ethylene-tetrafluoroethylene]), although weaker than Nylon are also extremely versatile. Used in high temperature applications, Tefzel is also highly resistant to concentrated acids (such as hydrofluoric acid, which is used for etching glass, and sulfuric acid). In addition, in high humidity environments, Tefzel is virtually unaffected.

Adding even further to Tefzel's versatility is its radiation resistance up to 100 megarads, its high temperature stability (rated for continuous use up to 302°F, or 150°C), its ultraviolet (UV) light resistance, and its UL 94V-0 flame rating.

Halar® Cable Ties (ECTFE [ethylene-chlorotrifluoroethylene]), has properties similar to Tefzel. The major difference (besides the price) is that Halar resin is rated for use in plenum spaces. This is due to its low smoke density when burned. Its durability is similar to Nylon, and is has excellent impact resistance at normal temperatures as well as at very low temperatures. Halar has good tensile, flexural, and wear-related properties.

Halar is also very gamma resistant, and is rated for temperatures from -50°C to 150°C. It is also UV resistant and carries a UL 94V-0 flame rating. Basically, if you need good resistance to almost any environment, but low smoke generation (i.e. plenum) is not a concern, go with Tefzel ties, otherwise if you require that all of your components be suitable for plenum (air-handling) spaces, go with Halar ties.
